Mens Golf Major Events

The Werribee Park Golf Club conducts several Major Events throughout the golf year.

The following paragraphs describe each event qualifying procedure and conditions of play.

In the event of a tie in a major competition, the winner shall be determined by an 18 hole playoff at a date and time determined by the Golf Committee. Should a tie still exist after a playoff, a further playoff shall be conducted until a winner is determined for the competition.

NEVILLE HUDSON MEMORIAL TROPHY

The event is played on 20 Saturdays throughout the year. An asterisk ‘*’ preceding description of the competition event of the day indicates a qualifying round for this trophy.

There are 20 possible qualifying rounds, with a minimum of 15 rounds to count. The lowest average nett score (to two decimal places) of the total best 15 rounds played shall determine the winner of this trophy. In the event of a tie, the winner shall be decided by calculating the lowest differential between the lowest and highest scores of the 15 eligible cards of the tied competitors.

MONTHLY MEDAL

A stroke event, normally conducted on the first Saturday of each month. The player who completes the stroke round with the lowest nett score, irrespective of handicap grade shall be the winner. Coincident with winning the medal the player shall be awarded the Captain&rsquos Cup and the Grade trophy of the day. In the event of a tie, the ultimate winner shall be decided by a countback.

All players must have played 5 competition rounds at Werribee Park Golf Club to be eligible to win a monthly medal.

MEDAL OF MEDALS

A stroke event, conducted annually and limited to those members who have won a monthly medal during the preceding golfing year of the WPGC. The event is played over 18 holes on the last Saturday of February. The best net score deciding the winner of the Medal of Medals. In the event of a tie the winner shall be decided by an 18 hole play-off at a time decided by the Golf Committee.

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS

The Club Championships are conducted over four rounds of 18 holes stroke play with the best aggregate scores deciding the Championship winner and grade winners. The Championships are generally conducted in May each year.

The following conditions apply for the championships -

a) To be eligible to compete in the Club Championship:

  • Members must be financial as at 1stApril of the year of the Championships.
  • Members must have submitted five 18 hole club competition cards during the previous golf year, i.e, from 1stMarch of the preceding year to 1st March of current year. Cards are to be for single competitions only.

b) Eligible entrants must compete in the competition of the day to qualify for the championships.

c) Gradings are concurrent with those set by the Golf Committee at the time of the Championships (see Grades and Handicaps) Provide Link to the Grades and Handicap page

d) Handicaps applying for the first round shall be retained for each round of the Club Championship. The grade in which a member competes during the Club Championship shall be determined by application of the member&rsquos handicap at Round One. Handicaps shall be adjusted up or down for the individual competition, including the May Handicap, being played concurrently with the championship rounds.

e) After round three, the leading four players in each grade shall be drawn to play the final round together at a time designated by the Golf Committee. All other players entered for the championships are still eligible contenders for the open and/or grade events.

f) In the event of a tie in any of the four grades, the winner shall be decided by an 18 hole playoff commencing at the first tee, at a time to be designated by the Golf Committee. In the event that this playoff be tied, play will continue until a result is achieved, i.e, 19thhole or further.

1. JUNIOR CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP

The Junior Club Championship is conducted over 36 holes of stroke play with the best aggregate gross score deciding the winner. The following conditions apply for the Junior Club Championship:

a) The player must have Junior or Student membership of the Werribee Park Golf Club and be less than 21 years of age at the 1stMarch.

b) Members must be financial as at 1stMarch of the year of the Champioship.

c) Eligible entrants must have submitted five 18 hole club competition cards during the previous golf season, i.e, from 1stMarch of the preceding year. Cards are to be for single competitions only.

d) In the event of a tie in this championship event, the winner shall be decided by an 18 hole playoff commencing at the first tee at a time designated by the Golf Committee. In the event that this play-off be tied, play will continue until a result is achieved, i.e, 19thhole or further.

2. WINTER CUP SUMMER CUP, SPRING AUTUMN SHIELD

These events are conducted over three rounds, one each of stroke, par and stableford, in conjunction with the daily competition with the best aggregate nett score for three rounds deciding the winner.

In the event of a tie, a play-off over 18 holes will be as arranged by the Golf Committee. The play-off shall commence at the first tee and from the Championship marker (blue).

3. ANNIVERSARY TROPHY

Conducted over one round close to December 4th as determined by the Golf/Match Committee. The player who completes the round with the best score irrespective of handicap grade shall be the winner. In the event of a tie the ultimate winner shall be decided by a countback.

4. HANDICAP MATCHPLAY KNOCKOUT

Entries will be received by the Golf Committee from individual members. Seeding of players will be determined by random draw with the exception of the previous years finalists (if entered) who shall be seeded into positions 1 2 respectively. Each match shall be played at a mutually agreed time in accordance with conditions set by Golf Committee.In the event of a tie after 18 holes, play will continue until a hole is won. (ie. Sudden death)

Semi Finals and the Final shall be arranged by the Golf Committee to be played at times to be determined by the said committee.

5. 4 BBB HANDICAP MATCHPLAY KNOCKOUT

Entries will be received by the Golf Committee from teams of two players. Seeding of teams will be determined by random draw with the exception of the previous years finalists (if entered) who shall be seeded into positions 1 2 respectively. Each match shall be played at a mutually agreed time in accordance with conditions set by Golf Committee. In the event of a tie after 18 holes, play will continue until a hole is won. (ie. Sudden death)

Semi Finals and the Final shall be arranged by the Golf Committee to be played at times to be determined by the said committee.

6. ARTIE BUGG TROPHY (Best 3 of 5)

Conducted over five rounds on Thursdays during November and December. The player who has the best 3 net scores of 5 rounds, irrespective of handicap or grade shall be the winner. In the event of a tie, the player with the best net score in any of the 3 best chosen scores shall be determined the winner.

7. KEVIN EGAN SHIELD (Best 12 of 16)

Conducted over 16 rounds on Thursdays during May to August/September. The player who has the best 12 net scores out of 16 rounds, irrespective of handicap or grade shall be the winnerIn the event of a tie, the winner shall be decided by calculating the lowest differential between the lowest and highest scores of the 12 eligible cards of the tied competitors.

8. THURSDAY SHIELD CAP

Played on the second Thursday of each month the Thursday Cup is awarded to the player who returns the best score of the day. All monthly Cup winners shall play off on the third Thursday in January for the Thursday Shield. In the event of a tie the winner shall be decided by countback.
